You could pair them up with another student in the classroom that could help that kid around the school, classroom rules, etc.

So many times you group up kids and then there's always one who seems to do everything. But with this activity, each person has a job and they all contribute and have to be prepared.

Draw an Idiom I have used this activity in the classroom and students love this. This is a great activity to illustrate both the literal and figurative meanings of idioms of their choice. Students also include a written explanation to deepen their understanding. This makes a great bulletin board. Figurative language is very difficult for ELL and lower level students and this activity aids in their understanding.

Anticipation Guide I love this activity to introduce a new text. You can see a glimpse of their background knowledge of the subject and it teaches them to support their answers through evidence in the text. It gives the students a purpose for reading and encourages them to be active readers.

Great vocabulary activity! I chose 5 of our wordly wise words. Groups of 2-3 wrote each word on a note card (the bricks) and arranged them so that they made sense. Then they added connecting words and/or sentence in between. Supported better sentences and thinking than when we just ask them to write a paragraph with 5 of their words.
