While we cut our summer short since the 23-24 school year ends in June, it overall is a better calendar.

For those schools on semester schedules the calendar should be divided to allow for EQUAL days in the fall and spring. I have taught on both calendars and much prefer the current one we have. I do not like going back to school the end of July. When we had exams before Winter break, many parents would request their kids take their exams even earlier because they were going out of town. Having 2 teacher workdays to get ready for a new semester is not feasible and I don't want to spend my break getting ready. You will also have many people who will be absent in August because it is still summer. This current year we had 1 “workday” between end of exams and new semester. In version 5 we have two. 
The first summer will stink. After that, the summers will be just as long as usual and the benefits will be wonderful. Camps and jobs will adjust- I actually remember not being able to take certain internships my junior and senior year because school  was still in session.
