My first suggestion is to encourage participation. By encouraging employees to share their ideas and professional opinions, it allows for the company to grow.
My second suggestion is to instill confidence in the employees. A common scenario is when employees don't share their ideas because they think they will fail or don't have confidence in them. But if the supervisor encourages them by saying something like, "Even if an idea fails, something is still accomplished. Don't be afraid to share an idea because you are uncertain about how it will turn out. We learn from our mistakes and to succeed we must fail first."
My next suggestion is to practice a brainstorming process. A simple way to do this is to have a employee meeting. Have all employees state their ideas. The supervisor then records the ideas where all employees can see them. Once all the ideas are recorded then the evaluation process starts. Employees as a group could list pro's and con's of the idea collection, or an email with the ideas could be submitted to all employees and then they can project their thoughts privately.
These are just some of my ideas on how supervisors could help boost brainstorming.
-Crescent Hogden
Student ID #: 002823846
