Question regarding technology in my content area: English

I would like to learn more ways to make English interactive and fun for the students. I find commas and parallel structure fascinating, but I want my students to feel the same way and integrating technology is the best way to do so. I want my students to be able to move around and play while learning the material. I have learned more ways than I knew prior to this coarse, but I am still working on finding new and eventful methods for my future English classrooms.

It can be a challenge to have all of your students be interested in learning the same material. Some ways you can make it fun is group work and creative work. Students love to create with their own imagination. An assignment could be giving a group a different paragraph with grammar mistakes, and have them fix it. Then, you could have them act it out! This is interactive and fun for the students!

I think it all depends on which grade you will be teaching. One thing we have talked about in this class is webquests. I know you are a middle level education major so these would be great for your students. They have them for all kinds of different subjects. There are tons of fun, educational videos on youtube now that would be so much fun to show in a class. I still think about the conjunction junction song from school house rock! You will be a great teacher and your students will love your class!

It really depends on the class, one of my favorite things my teachers did was let us listen and watch videos like school house rock. The songs are catchy and easy to learn. In my ELED class we learned how to make raps so its a fun way to learn a topic, maybe put the students in groups and give them a few minutes to come up with a rap to teach the class about a certain part of a sentance and what is does
ex. a period ends a sentence.
have one group write a rap about the period, and then another about commas, etc. when each group has gone, make the students find one person from each group to come up with a rap that includes something from all categories. This can work with more than just punctuation, it's just an idea! :)

I think that using smartboard activities t hat the students can get up and interact with would be the best solution for this. Any time the children can interact, they will enjoy it more.
