桃太郎

むかし、むかし、ある所におじいさんとおばあさんが住んでいました。
おじいさんは山へしば刈りに、おばあさんは川へ洗濯に行きました。
おばあさんが川で洗濯をしていると大きな桃が流れてきました。
「なんと大きな桃じゃろう！家に持って帰ろう。」
とおばあさんは背中に担いで家に帰り、その桃を切ろうとすると、なんと桃から大きな赤ん坊が出てきました。
「おっとたまげた。」
二人は驚いたけれども、とても喜び、
「何という名前にしましょうか。」
「桃から生まれたから、桃太郎というのはどうだろう。」
「それがいい。」

桃太郎はあっと言う間に大きくなり、立派な優しい男の子になりました。

In the process of my independent study, I have been practising the four aspects of listening, reading and writing. For listening, since my hobby is watching Japanese anime and Japanese radio dramas, I can understand simple Japanese conversations; for speaking, I have mastered some daily discussions and can also read some simple articles. To improve my reading and speaking, I started to try to follow the NHK news, and I found out that I have a problem with sentence breaks, which sometimes affect my understanding of the meaning of the articles. As for writing, this is my biggest weakness. Even though I know the kanji of commonly spoken words and how to pronounce them, I cannot write the correct hiragana spelling, especially the long sound "u", which is often overlooked in my writing. So in response to this, I think I have actually neglected the importance of the basics in learning Japanese. I will pay more attention to vocabulary memorisation and correct writing in my future studies, which I believe will help me further my Japanese language skills.
