1. As a TK-1st grade Youth Leader, snack time with my students are our favorite! It is important to encourage the children to try new items of their choice. I make sure all of my students are at least having a fruit or vegetable or both during our program time.

2. Make it fun, easy and tasty! Make the veggies easily accessible for them to grab on their own when they are ready to have some. Provide yummy dips on the side to encourage variety in flavors such as hummus, ranch, etc.

3. Be patient! Every child eats differently which is important to keep in mind. Just because the kid next door like tomatoes, DOES NOT mean yours will too. Encourage the vegetables in different meals, remember that the decision is only theirs to make.

As someone who was a young-picky eater, it is necessary to understand a child's voice. We tend to think that they have no idea on how to make choices for themselves but we are wrong. With guidance from family, educators, and resources, children should be given the option to choose what they want to eat. Taking them with you grocery shopping or helping out in the kitchen is a great way to get them involved and motivated to eat vegetables. Familiarize your child with veggies from an early age, and play around with recipes that will help your child eat the necessary vegetables that they need to become strong, healthy and a fearless eater!
