Citra and Rowan do not appear very enthusiastic about their society, or the ability to live forever (unless they are "gleaned". I think that its common for dystopian societies to give the impression of perfection, but there is always something that is very wrong. In the case of Scythe, the lives of MidMerica's citizens seems perfect: there is no death, disease, or lack of anything worth having. I think that in MidMerica, mostly everyone lives the exact same lifestyle. There isn't really any concept of social class or diversity. Everyone can afford to live comfortably. If someone wants to change their appearance they can. If they want a fresh start, they can "turn the corner" and go back to a younger age. Their society is very much stagnant. They don't necessarily always fit in with their peers. These characters often end up rebelling against someone, whether it be their parents, society, some form of evil, or all of these.
