Important Leadership Skills

I think leaders should be confident because I you can't trust yourself you can't expect others to either. Good leaders provide guidance rather than instruction, they help other people become leaders in the future rather than forcing them to take orders thus conditioning them to become nothing but task executors. Leaders should be self aware because with leadership comes responsibilities and power, the latter can cause once good leaders to become arrogant or bossy which is why self awareness is important to prevent those sorts of things from happening. Leaders should also have good communication skills because if a leader gets their power from their followers and if the followers cannot understand them then they have no power and are essentially useless.

My family is very heavily involved with social work back in India and they have inspired me to take up community service oriented initiatives myself.

My robotics family (pictured below) is basically a squad of geniuses who do a million and one things and are good at all of them. They have shown me that there is no such thing as not having enough time, if you care enough you'll make time. They are all very talented and are everything I aspire to be. They have given Ted talks, gotten into Ivies, can literally build anything out of a pile of metal scraps and above all they are not crazy workaholics and are super fun to hang out with.

Over the past two years, I have gone to India and trained teachers at underfunded public schools how to build and program an EV3 LEGO Robot and taught a few robotics camps and classes. When I returned to The States, I chose to expand this initiative by including more than just EV3 robots in my curriculum. I developed PREPARE, an organization that donates laptops, KNEX Kits, LEGO EV3 sets, projectors, software and other technology. After developing more STEM curriculum and training more teachers, my organization now gives over 600 financially disadvantaged children access to a quality STEM education. PREPARE has donated over $15,000 worth of equipment all of which was paid for by fundraised money.
