Families have started to be reunited with the bodies of lost loved ones, three days after floods hit the capital of Colombia’s southern Putumayo province.
The smell of putrefaction from the decaying bodies reportedly was so bad that many in the cemetery had to wear masks to prevent nausea.
United States President Donald Trump called his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos to personally express his solidarity “with the people of Mocoa,” the Colombian president said Tuesday.
The US embassy announced Monday it would initially donate $200,000 for emergency assistance and reconstruction efforts.

The release of chemicals in a rebel-held town in Idlib province brought furious international reaction.
Officials in Damascus deny opposition and Western claims that they used chemical weapons.
Russia's defence ministry said a Syrian air strike had hit a rebel ammunition store that included chemical weapons.
In particular, "a workshop for the production of land mines filled with poisonous substances" had been hit, it said.
It seemed to support accounts by Syrian military sources a day earlier who reported an explosion at what they called a rebel chemical weapons factory in Khan Sheikhoun.
UK-based monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll at 72, including 20 children.
It was unable to say which chemical had been involved but pro-opposition groups said it was believed to have been the nerve agent Sarin.

Spanish police have arrested a Russian programmer following US allegations of large-scale hacking. Pyotr Levashov was held in Barcelona on Friday and is remanded in custody. Spanish police said Mr Levashov controlled a botnet called Kelihos, hacking information and installing malicious software in hundreds of thousands of computers. The arrest was part of a "complex inquiry carried out in collaboration with the FBI", police said.
Mr Levashov is subject to a US international arrest warrant and a Spanish court will hear whether he can be extradited. Much of his alleged activity involved ransomware - blocking a computer's access to certain information and demanding a ransom for its release. She said Spanish police had told her the arrest was in connection with "a virus which appears to have been created by my husband and is linked to Donald Trump's victory".
