• The overall goal of The Civil Rights Movement and what it strived to create throughout America. 

• There was an expectation for African Americans not to register to vote, even though they were legally allowed to.
• There was also an expectation for whites to do anything in their power to prevent blacks from voting. 

• The men had brutally beaten Rosaleen. 

• The movements success was taken back by social tradition and expectations of how African Americans were "supposed" to act.

• Women in the 1960's, during the Civil Rights Movement, were expected to be caretakers of their family and home. 

• Her family dynamics were different than what society expected a “normal family” to be.

• Defying what was socially expected of her, Eckford realized that her bravery in participating in an all white school, was for all of society.

• Even though change was all around them, socially African Americans could not rise because they forced and expected to stay as lower class citizens because they lacked opportunities socially.

• Segregation in schools held African Americans back from professions such as a lawyer.

• There were still expectations that African Americans were not subject to any unmotivated kindness.

• Although the court ruled with the statement above, society was still unwilling to change their social expectations to allow blacks to be equal.

• Though the 1960's brought social hardships for African Americans, especially those living in the south, it ultimately created systematic change by the end. 

• Though the Civil Rights Movement was progressing, the social expectation that African Americans are inferior to whites remained.

• Because whites chose to put African Americans in a negative light, they were socially inferior to the whites and therefore were treated without respect or kindness.
