I can connect the tragedy in Tulsa to what's happening in America today because injustice against people of color still occurs. There have been many instances during this time where public officials have taken actions of hatred against people of color and have tried to ignore it or cover it up. For example, in 2020 when Breyanna Taylor was murdered, the police used the excuse that she was involved in a serious case they were working on. When the evidence they had was brought to light it was clear that they greatly exaggerated her involvement and was killed for no reason. This connects to the Tulsa massacre because it was overlooked. They thought that since they had enough evidence against her, that her death was justified. Just as they overlooked the killings of numerous black people. They privilege they have makes them overlook tragedies and that is apparent 100 years ago and even today.

The fact that this massacre was covered up does play a big part in understanding the privileges black and white people had in that day and age and still have up to now. I definitely feel as though there should be museum displays in order to educate people about this tragic event and honor the people whose deaths were covered up.

This event should be remembered and memorialized by having an art gallery or in-person tours of the location of the Tulsa massacre with tour guides explaining the history or the events that happened, as it is just one event out of so many where white people have committed brutal atrocities against certain groups of people. I believe that it should definitely be taught about the massacre in schools as it is still a piece of history within the United States. The USA has a long history of discriminating against minorities or specific groups and acting out in horrific ways - in particular white men. The reason why we learn about history is to change the future and to not repeat the mistakes of the past - so it should be a part of the curriculum since it is a massacre that takes place here near home. We have museums, monuments, and gathering places for Native Americans who also once were forced by white settlers to give up their culture, land, traditions, lives, and more - there is no reason why the same can’t be done for the Tulsa victims as well as survivors. Their livelihoods, success, lives and more were stolen from them, erecting a museum or an art gallery in memory of those who lost everything should be expected for all their sacrifices.

It has been buried because the government along with other groups don't want to acknowledge all of the unacceptable things that people of color have gone through. If they remind people of what happened then they would need to find a solution. If they pretend it didn't happen then nothing needs to be done. The descendants of some of the victims didn't know what happened because many articles of what happened from the time were destroyed. In addition, they couldn't find any of the bodies of the victims. The white people who committed the massacre and the government/police who turned a blind eye weren't going to be the ones to own up to what happened so as people who were alive during it die the truth of what really happened disappears with them.

Within the past year black people have been killed for no actual reason. Although it wasn’t a massacre, history still repeats itself and blacks are still getting killed to this day because of racism. Confronting this history helps address the issue because it brings awareness. There are some events that nobody knows about because people don’t want it to be known. By making these issues known it’s more likely to stop it.

Hundreds of people were killed and over 1000 homes were destroyed. In addition their years of success even with the harsh conditions given to them were destroyed. The government should be compensating them by not only repairing the damages, but giving money as well to those who have suffered. They should fund the churches that were destroyed as well as restocking any retail business which were black owned. Small price to pay for the pain and suffering of hundreds of innocent people.

I believe that the victims of the Tulsa massacre and their descendants are owed many things. The horrors that occurred during the Tulsa massacre still haunt many survivors today as many lost their livelihoods, their families, loved ones, their success, and more. I believe that the choice of compensation should be up to the survivors and their families however I do have some ideas of compensation. I think that there isn’t an appropriate compensation for the atrocities that occured and I’m not too sure if monetary compensation would seem to be insensitive as it would seem like the lives of so many was equivalent to a check. I believe that compensation should be in the form of ensuring the livelihoods of the Tulsa survivors or perhaps a community that is dedicated to them would also work. Another way would be to make sure that another event such as this won’t happen again in the USA but that’s probably going to be difficult.

I feel like it's because of the way America is. Our government fails to take responsibility for their terrible actions. A possibility could be that they paid people to keep quiet about this massacre to avoid spreading controversy. Even today, the government rarely holds police accountable for their unjustified acts of brutality. They most likely wanted to prevent talk about the massacre so they didn't look worse than they already do. In addition they also would have wanted to prevent lawsuits from pouring in.

During the Tulsa massacre hundreds of people of color were killed and even black owned churches were destroyed by those who were white. This act of rage wasn't handled properly at all by the government. Fast forward 100 years and republican protestors storm the white house out of rage and police barely even did anything to them.

I can connect that the white people who committed the massacre and white people who commit bad actions today aren't being held responsible for their actions. During the insurrection and storming of the capital in January white Americans committed serious offences but were not held fully accountable. Republican representatives are trying to blow off what happened and are saying that an investigation isn't needed. This is a step in the wrong direction and reflects what probably happened after the Tulsa Race Massacre. The police in both situations did very little to help the situation. In Tulsa the police made it seem like the people of color were the ones starting the violence and had guns to harm the white people. This misinformation had terrible consequences for the people of color who were being killed by the white people. If we confront the fact that white people are held to a higher standard and often given the benefit of the doubt in situations like this we can start to move for change. The racism from people in power leads to black people being held accountable for things, even for things they didn't do. Law enforcement is the biggest barrier as they are notorious for mistreating people of color. If people in power acknowledge that this is happening and try to reform systems that let this happen then we can reduce the severity of this issue.

The government had covered their tracks and that’s why this was buried for so long. The reason why the descendants didn’t know about this massacre was probably the reason I stated above. The government put charges against a 19 year old boy as “Assault” when he just stumbled and for balance did he only hold the girl’s hand. Like this the government covered their tracks and hence no one knew about this massacre. They probably just thought that the government was just doing their job.

This event must be remembered as how racism is going on in the world and how it must come to an end. This can be possible only if the next generation isn’t as corrupted as this one. People should learn about this in schools. If we are learning about people dying for the good of the country then why shouldn’t we learn about this massacre conducted in the country. People must know that racism should never ever be conducted again and that it is wrong to do that. There should be gathering places and museums dedicated to the victims and their descendants. The more the people know about this massacre the better. We shouldn’t just stick this to newspapers or news channels. There should be a gathering place so that people can pay their respects and museums so that people can know what happened.

In the Tulsa massacre a 19 year old stumbled and held a girl’s arm so that he wouldn't fall. This was put in charges as “Assault” which is something I don’t understand. In 2020, George Floyd was killed for no reason, he didn’ carry any illegal substances that the police, in this case, the murderers had suspicion on. He was killed even after he proved them wrong. He cried that he couldn’t breathe but the ‘Police’ didn’t care and ultimately killed him. They tried to cover this up by saying that he died by the overdose of drugs, but thank god the autopsy proved them wrong. This literally shows how racism is still clearly going on. It might be less than what it was in the past but it still is there. Until it’s fully gone we cannot compensate for the massacre. In both the cases the boy and George were wrongfully convicted and killed for no reason. Both of the cases tried to cover it up but the only difference is that it was able to succeed in Tulsa a 100 yrs ago but it wasn’t in 2020.

What happened in Tulsa 100 years ago and what is happening now is no different at all because they are still treating black people the same way. Absolutely nothing has changed since then. Black people till this day are still getting wrongfully treated and getting killed. Confronting this issue makes people learn about history they probably didn’t even know about. If we face circumstances we can all fix problems that has been going on for years.
