Today the Ninjas were introduced to the basics of video game design. We first started with an introduction on how to create different sprites to be used in their games. We create 4 different custom sprites: a player, enemy, powerup, and a projectile sprite. After creating their custom sprites, the Ninjas spent some time adding their sprites to their games. We then shifted to creating tilemaps / levels for their platformer game. They were then given a short explanation about good and bad level design. With the concepts they learned they went back and made improved their levels layout. They now have an idea about all the things that go into making the games that they love to play. Overall, the Ninjas had an awesome time learning about game development.

Today ninjas learned and practiced a lot of important STEM skills such as debugging, pair programming, structural integrity and weight distribution, to name a few. Using Lego SPIKE to assist them, the ninjas were able to code their motorized creations to behave according to their desired results. We had two teams and they each designed and worked on troubleshooting skills to make cars, helicopters, and more! They also practiced their spacial reasoning and creative skills when modeling 3D structures using ToyBox.
