T-shirt Design :D

Topographical maps are maps that clearly show Earths features and their height. to represent this I designed a T-shirt with a tie die pattern. This way, kids are more likely to think the shirt is interesting and it doubles in effect as the progression colors show the height of the mountain as well.

The phrase written n the back is a play on words. Topo maps R Top O' the line, it's cute an it rhymes. If teens aren't interested in the shirt then I'm sure someone interested in science and dad jokes would be.

The topographical map also looks like a spiders web as there is a line in the upper left corner which is supposed to indicate a valley.

Canva Bumper Stickers (✿◠‿◠)

I imagine the back of the stickers to have a paragraph explain how mountains are made and the other would have how volcanos are made. But, because a brick of text would look funky in an image I'll write it here!

Mountain Sticker:
Did you know that volcanos are formed by aliens??? Ha! Maybe in a different galaxy but certainly not here. Mountains are formed by tectonic plates. These are pieces of the crust that flat around on top of magma. Because they're moving, somethings they smash into each other. When that happens it creates a mountain. Though these mountains aren't formed over night. Instead, they're formed very slowly over a period of thousands of years.

Volcano Sticker:
Volcanos.. the Earths pimples.. dreadful. Or are they?? Volcanos are formed similarly to how mountains are, however instead of smashing into each other, one plate goes underneath the other. The one that is moving underneath the other is melting into the layer underneath which releases gasses and a concentration of magma within the mountain, which is now a volcano. If this pocket is to concentrated then it erupts the magma on the surface.

Earthquake Advertisement

Selling points:
The ad briefly explains types of earthquakes and is meant to instill fear. This means that the young person reading this will be prompted to look up these words and find out more for themselves instead of glossing over a wall of text.

Why was this chosen:
This earthquake PSA is put into an art magazine. More often then now, young activists are interested in art. Which means if the see this PSA then they are more willing to gain and spread this knowledge either consciously or subconsciously.

How the artwork gets across the concept:
Artwork featured in this ad is rather aesthetic and fits into the magazine without looking to out of place. It clearly shows an Earthquake so whether the reader is skimming or paying attention they will notice it.

Why the claims and selling points help explain the importance or develop the understanding:
Firstly, this ad has a very specific target audience which it has hit. Meaning it will be spread and people will do something for preparing for an Earthquake and understanding what the magnitude for earthquakes are.

Possible extras:
The image of the earth could open up to explain the following.
Seismic waves - These are waves (p and s) that scientists use to detect the magnitude of earthquakes along with how far away they are and when they started.
Magnitude - How strong the Earthquake is.
What Causes an Earthquake - Techtonic plates experience to much friction and energy is released.
