cosmetic surgery is considered a feminine thing. cosmetic surgery in men is okay "as long as it still looks mas­culine. Looking masculine "evokes for them a built, muscular, athletic body, well-groomed face and hair, and a matching flat stomach or, ideally, a hard six-pack."

• On beauty, I noticed that their beauty standards were both accessible and unattainable. By that I mean that they liked a natural undone look but it was mostly achieved via surgery and intense diet and exercise - T
• most of the had to get some sort of cosmetic procedure to achieve they “desired” look - J
• The judges and fans all preferred the models who looked effortless but there was SO much hard work, deprivation and surgical enhancements to achieve the look- T
• Yes, I agree with both of you. I also think that unfortunately, this created misconceptions between women. Many of them become to believe that they should follow these  standards to be beautiful - Y
• To piggyback on what Jennifer mentioned, the gender roles seemed to be very traditional in what one would think to be a female industry. Men in charge - T
• It’s really a pageant about what men desire and not about women - J
• As for their cultural relativity, I think that the pageant lines up with their ideas of femininity because it’s basically a  source of national prides. They don’t seem to see anything out of the ordinary about it - T
