Laws can come from many sources, federal, state and city ordinances. The supremacy clause helps determine which law takes precedence (Hashmall, 2017). If two laws contradict each other the origin of the law will help determine which is the law that must be followed.

As advances are made in technology, changes are made in laws. At times it seems the laws cannot keep up with technology. Several years ago the DEA made it unlawful to electronically prescribe controlled substances. Last month a new law was signed to allow electronic prescribing of controlled substances (Lackman, 2018). This is to help prescription drug monitoring and to assist physicians in having access to real-time information about the patients they are prescribing for.
