I explored many different knowledge areas through the french language - many of those that I had not done in IGCSE before - like LGBTQ+ and migration. This gave me a broader perspective, not only about the french culture but also what is accepted in france - like the norms and beliefs.

I was able to develop more complex ideas than I did before. Previously, i could only think of simpler concepts but discussing topics like immigration, race etc helped my french a lot

I was able to use better vocabulary that was more specific to the topic which helped me develop my ideas.
The sample questions helped my expand on my thoughts and opinions and build on my answers.

I was able to find ways to express points that were complex as well as express opinions, I could also understand the ways in which interesting topics are discussed and expressed, such as Migration, LGBTQ rights ect. I was able to read and understand these complex topics as well. I enjoyed the activities that we had such as writing a journal entry about a dilemma about acceptance.

Spoken french improved: I was able to share thoughts/ideas/opinions about my genuine interests. Till last year I was still speaking about my daily routine or just school, but this year I felt more confident in discussing things that matter to me.

Using Flashcards and Quizlet was helpful because I was able to do tests and also work on my spelling. The grammar book which miss had shared was also very helpful and it helped me frame my sentence better

Learning vocabulary: I was reading the resources on G Drive that Miss uploaded. More than just vocab, this also helped with grammatical formations.

Implementing vocabulary: watching French vloggers speaking to other natives. Saw how the language can be used with ease. Also French podcasts.

The textbook helped a lot to improve my vocab. By reading new words in full formed sentences, I understood their context. Also, I learned some words by heart from the quizlet and then tried forming sentences with them, so that I got used to using them.
For listening- I just had to listen more and more often, and I tried to get used to the muffled voices.
Speaking - after reading about a particular topic, I tried to speak about it myself - give my opinion, and ask myself questions as well.

When the year started I relied on quizlet for memorising vocab, but it wasn't really enough. Later on, I started to read more about the same topics. I also used the idioms website to help learn about conversational French. I don't have much exposure to French on a daily basis so I personally enjoyed watching shows and listening to French songs. I also learnt the lyrics which helped with pronunciation.

Vocabulary definitely - mainly the idioms to reach the higher mark bands. I think idioms will take time to get used to because learning several a day won’t help me remember them in the long term. So, sentence formation considering the topic I am doing can be helpful.

In grammar, I have to work on my gender- it’s very technical although when I learn new words, I must make sure to learn their gender then and there.

I have to increase the variety of the tenses I use - subjunctive, and other formations like interrogative and negative.

Listening and Reading test papers.

I want to be able to understand with ease quick and fluent french accents without having to listen to an audio 2-3 times. Catching abbreviations or shortened phrases. When there are different verb forms in reading I tend to get thrown off, want to be more accustomed to comprehending those.

Adding more colloquial french phrases/idioms/abbreviations in written french as well.
