Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you function on a daily basisFortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.

Most people feel sad or depressed at times. It’s a normal reaction to loss or life's struggles.

But when intense sadness -- including feeling helpless, hopeless, and worthless -- lasts for many days to weeks and keeps you from living your life, it may be something more than sadness. You could have clinical depression -- a treatable medical condition.

The results show that depression increased significantly among persons in the U.S. from 2005 to 2015, from 6.6 percent to 7.3 percent. Notably, the rise was most rapid among those ages 12 to 17, increasing from 8.7 percent in 2005 to 12.7 percent in 2015. A recent article from August 2018 states that 16.2 million adults in the US which is (about 6.7% of adults ) have had a major depressive episode in the past year. With such high statistics it’s not supporting that a couple of my best friends have struggled with depression. It’s really hard to watch people struggle because you can just try your best to help them, but there is no way for you to just make it go away.

The high rates for adolescents and millennials could have a substantial health impact for decades to come.

Although things on the outside can cause depression, there is a chemical aspect as well. To make it simple, it is chemicals that are working on the inside and outside nurse cells. There is even a higher vulnerability to people with specific genes. With newcoming technology, the hope for more types of therapy is on the horizon.
