Hi everyone! I am from Burlington, North Carolina and am excited to find the passion that I want to pursue within the environment and enjoy my time at NCSU while doing it. I would say my interest in the environment came from all the outdoor activities I have done growing up like fishing and camping (and how some as this has degraded). I’m Misty or Mist, and I was born in Houston Texas. I am incredibly excited to start at one of if not the best environmental programs in the state. Dr. Gideon Wasserberg of Wasserberg Lab told me all the wonderful opportunities his colleagues here offered and it immediately sealed the deal for me, though this was already one of my top choices. I’m not entirely sure what sparked my interest in ecology, because I’ve never known a time when I didn’t feel this way. I did a presentation in pre-k about how this would be my career path, it’s who I’ve always been. Moving to North Carolina did give me a passion for protecting the North Carolina ecosystem though. It’s so rich and full of so many amazing organisms, and with over a hundred endangered animals and around 20 endangered plants in this state to my knowledge, I’m excited to join the conservation efforts.
