Early childhood education in Italy has become world famous. The Reggio Emilia schools have become "laboratories" studied and modeled by teachers from many countries, especially the United States. The philosophical model of Reggio Emilia nursery schools and kindergartens focuses on constructivist theoretical foundations that emphasize a learner-centered curriculum and teaching methodology. The Reggio Emilia schools create an educational world in which children work and play in communities and learn to respect other persons and divergent points of view.

Another early childhood educator was Maria Montessori. The well-known Italian educator, who believed that children could learn math and language skills by applying knowledge. In Montessori schools, children are introduced to materials. They are taught that freedom implies responsibility, self-discipline and working cooperatively with others. Montessori educational materials are designed for exploration and self-discovery. For Montessori, the ultimate goal of education for a young adult is to develop within the individual the desire for life-long learning.

Most of the tourists travel to Italy for the good food and clothes from designers.
The educational system has a lot of things the same as in Germany and the only difference is that the primary school takes one year longer and the notes are between 0 and 10, where 10 is the best.

I was often in Italy to enjoy the food and the beautiful landscape. In this case I have to underline that Italy is one of my favourite travel places so that I could get a personal view. Leonie has given us much information about Italy. She has mentioned the most interesting sight seeing places and cities which people should visit if they are going to go to Italy. I think that she gave us a good range about the different opportunities regarding culture, lifstyle, food and habits of the Italian people.

Also it was very interesting for me to hear something about the Italian education and school system. For example it was unknown for me that the pre-school in Italy is free or that the grading is not comparable with our German system.

All in all I would say that Leonie gave me a good summary about Italy and its special features.

Lara
