The general education teacher is an expert in content, gifted teacher is expert in the students with the highest ability levels, and the special education teacher is expert in the student with unique needs. No teacher/educator in the building is an expert in all of these students, but the general education teacher is the person in the building who still teaches ALL of them. The next step for effective collaboration should be demonstration teaching. This allows for the general education teacher to see, first hand, some of the strategies that best challenge the gifted learners in the classroom. Finally, I think the most effective way to cater education to the learners is to get more experts in the room. Who doesn't love a smaller teacher-student ratio?
