The politcal structure the elders made rules and made sure the people followed them. They have not experienced war in there community. They do not have treatise because they are isolated. They do not have a court system. They do not have laws but have rules. Two of the rules are 1. No lying and 2 you only can have two kids. The elders were considered the leaders. The rules are set but can be changed through a slow process. The Giver and Jones Did not have to followed the Rules But others Are Suppose to Follow The Rules. (M.M)

We do not know where their community is located at. It is a small community. People get around by riding bikes and walking. The weather is the same all the time. The community doesn't get rain or snow. There is no sun. There are no seasons. The land has no hills and everything is flat. The community has no animals. (K.L.)

Economic Influences

In The Giver, economics is not a big deal to the community. The people in the community work but they don't talk about money. Everything is given to them so they don't have to buy anything. People do not have to buy food. Technology seems unimportant. They have a speaker system and video screens but no modern technology. Jobs are assigned. Some of the jobs are birth mother, Nurturer, Receiver, Giver, Pilots, and Recreation. People were all given a job based on observation from the Elders. Jonas' community does not trade with other communities because they are isolated. The community focuses on being the same and not on things such as money and technology. (J.P)

The people do not have art or music. The Giver is the only one that can have art and music. The people in the community only have three books. The Giver has lots of books. The philosophy of the community is everyone should be the same. The education for childern ends at twelve they do not have social studies or geography. (M.M)

Religious Influences

Religion does not seem important to the community. They don't talk about religion in The Giver. There are no holy books because they are only allowed to have 3 books. The Bible are not one of the books. There are no sins and salvation. The community believes in sameness. They have to act the same way and believe in same way. No one can believe in different ways. SOCIAL INFLUENCE

Families are decided by the community. Men and women seem equal in social class but some jobs are more important. Women and children as well as men share feelings and dreams. There is no slavery in the in the community although birth mothers were made to have babies and give their babies to the community. Husbands and wives are chosen as well as the children. They have one boy and one girl. The lifestyle in the community is strict and boring. The community have to be all the same. People are not suppose to break the rules. They don't have much for entertainment other than bikes and games outdoors. (K.L)
