I watched the films Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Chungking Express today, as part of the research. I've been trying to observe different film techniques, especially mise-en-scenes and color/tones recently.

I rated Eternal Sunshine a 4.5/5 with nice use of lighting especially at the end, with nice mise-en-scenes and aspect ratios.

Chungking Express is a solid 5/5, maybe higher. The color-grading is good, with excellent mise-en-scene, and overall aesthetically pleasing visuals. This comes with no surprise considering this was my 4th time watching the movie since June.

So far, I haven't gotten too far into my project because I struggled with brainstorming. Today, I watched Big Fish, a 2003 film directed by Tim Burton. I watched this movie before and thought it was nice, especially using creative frames, settings, and colors. The story is about a story-obsessed man, whose son is conflicted with until the moment he dies. It especially hit close to home this time as I watched it, with some similar family circumstances. I feel like a topic I can explore with my project can relate to aging.

I am still struggling with a creative block, and I have gotten very stressed from everything. I decided to keep on brainstorming and coming across various different films in order to get ideas. I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox. I always thought Wes Anderson's films had great use of mise-en-scene and color, so I thought I might as well watch the movie when I found that Disney Plus had it. Overall, I really liked the usage of warm colors, the general color palette, the narration, and the stop-motion. I think I might use some shots that I make with my own artwork (e.g. brief stop-motion or frames of my original artwork).

I wrote something today, just to try to generate some ideas. This is a short excerpt from the full thing which is based on a Korean saying "세월이 유수와 같다" meaning time is like flowing water.

I wrote the first draft of a script that I found good enough. I will be revising this later. The inspiration came from just browsing through some of my old journal entries, artworks, and books.

This was the last meeting with my advisor and I decided that I should start focusing on my project. I plan on working throughout the whole winter break to finish everything that I am behind on.

Throughout this period, I filmed over 40 new videos to use for my movie. Furthermore, I scavenged through my camera roll to find video clips from the past that I can use for my movie.

I completed my first storyboard. It took me the whole weekend to complete. I did not realize it would take this long, but I think it's fine and it has sufficient detail.

I worked on editing the video and adding captions. This was the most tedious and time-consuming portion of the project. I technically finished the project by Jan. 2, but I wanted to add captions in case my voice was inaudible.
