Write our your steps, draw pictures or sketches, think about how you are going to approach the construction of your project, and with your list of materials you have. Another important factor in the plan and design process is your decision matrix. A decision matrix is a table that has multiple critiques for your design and your groups, and you will rate them as a team. Simply, that's where you combine all of your ideas for you and your group, and where you plan on what design you are going to go with based on your decision matrix.

During this step, if you make a mistake during construction you can totally fix it. But you will have to take note of mistakes or changes you make. It is so important to record everything that you do in the engineering design process because it certifies what you have done, and shows a clear process.

In this step, you are simply going to test your product and see if it satisfies the problem you are trying to solve. It is crucial that during this process, you record all of your tests and the details in each, that way you can observe if it has solved your problem. This part is crucial to the next step, because it provides the reflect and improve step with a lot of information to reflect upon.

In the reflect and improve step, you are going to be analyzing your product's test, and whether you need to make any changes or not. You can always go back and make changes as long as you record the changes you have made. For example, if you are testing your product for an orthosis, and the ankle brace doesn't have enough support, and you need to add another rubber band, then that is the perfect time to record the changes made and go back and test it again. Sometimes your product doesn't satisfy the problem as much as you thought it would, so you may have to change the solution a bit to better solve the problem.
