World War II, New Nations, and the Cold War

Topic:
Cold War Padlet (Vietnam War)

Reflection:
After the second world war the two remaining superpowers the U.S. and the USSR both had the world most destructive weapon, the nuclear bomb. The tensions couldn't have been higher, with the press of a button the world could be destroyed in nuclear war. Both countries were trying to spread their influence on the world and would back nations in civil war with the same beliefs as them.

Connection:
During the Cold War human right #3 The Right to Life was violated because during the wars that were backed by the superpowers many civilians were killed or forced from their homes. Any supplies the troops would find would be taken or destroyed whether it was burned or contaminated.

Application to present day:
The Cold War was a good example of how weapons are getting to advanced and destructive because what is the point of using the weapon if it will destroy the world not get you what you want.

Gilded Age and World War I

Topic:
Gilded Age Smore Poster

Reflection:
After the revolutions the world started to settle and the countries had factories sprouting everywhere to produce new inventions made on new machines. This was a hard time for most but the upper class because they had to work in mills or factories that had horrible conditions and pay even kids had to work to support their family.

Connection:
These factories and mills were in complete violation of human right #23 Workers Rights because the workers weren't allowed to unionize and if they joined a union they would be fired along with having dirt poor wages.

Application to present day:
The Gilded age helped to establish workers rights so that workers have fair pay, fair hours, and the right to joining a union. These right were established after the completely unfair conditions that Gilded Age workers had to work under.

Age of Reason and Age of Revolution

Topic:
The French Revolution-Causes and Onset of Rebellion

Reflection:
The French Revolution was one of the major revolutions that showed all monarchs that people wanted a change and they wanted their voice to be heard not to be controlled by an all mighty leader. With these reasons they revolted.

Connection:
This connects to human right #21 The Right to Democracy because it is a case where the people of a country wanted to voice their own government not be led so they revolted and established a new democratic government.

Application to present day:
The French Revolution was a show to any government that if they are not liked they will be overthrown by the people who will establish a new governments. Revolutions happened many times after this one and are still happening to governments that don't treat their people fairly.

Age of Exploration and Age of Colonization

Topic:
Age of Exploration Newspaper

Reflection:
The Age of Exploration led to advanced knowledge of the world with conquistadors traveling the world by boat. This was important because it led to the discovery of the Americas or the New World along with proving the world is round by sailing around it fully.

Connection:
This connects to human #13 Freedom to Move because the explorers were able to leave their home country and sail the world but the right was also denied because the indigenous peoples were forced into slavery and not allowed to leave.

Application to present day:
Without the age of exploration the Americas wouldn't have been discovered and it might of been the people of the Americas who found Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Europeans finding the New World also impacted life today because they influenced the architecture, religion, and agriculture to fit life at home.
