She was the first woman and the only Filipino to be admitted to the school at that time. She completed her residency training in pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital and went on to work as a research fellow at the Harvard Medical School.

In 1941, Dr. del Mundo returned to the Philippines and established the Children's Medical Center in Manila, the first pediatric hospital in the country. She dedicated her career to improving child health in the Philippines, focusing on preventing and treating infectious diseases such as dengue fever, tuberculosis, and polio.

Dr. del Mundo's work also included research on nutrition and child development. She invented a low-cost incubator for premature infants, which was made from bamboo and coconut shells, and was used in rural areas of the Philippines where electricity was not available. She also developed a vaccine for dengue fever, which was a significant contribution to public health in the Philippines.

Dr. del Mundo received numerous awards and recognition for her work, both in the Philippines and internationally. She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1977, which is often referred to as the Asian Nobel Prize. She also received the Elizabeth Blackwell Award from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1966, becoming the first woman and the first Filipino to receive the award.
