In the article below, the study explains that using a metaphor with the advertisement can increase cognitive activity which leads to making the message more persuasive to viewers. It also mentions that the advert will perform better when using a metaphor without verbal justification. However, due to the high cognitive power required, using this approach works better for younger people that can quickly process the metaphor.

My promotional message is aimed for younger people who would be able to interact easily using a metaphor, however the older demographic may not interpret the message as well.
Including a metaphor may not have the best results for the video due to the older demographic not grasping the message, and also including visual metaphor may be difficult due to limited video editing knowledge.

Jeong, S 2008, Visual Metaphor in Advertising: Is the Persuasive Effect Attributable to Visual Argumentation or Metaphorical Rhetoric?, Journal of Marketing Communications, vol. 14, no. 1, pp. 59–73.
<del>
                                                          </del>
In the article below a study was conducted investigating the responses of people who commented on Facebook after watching an advertisement from Lloyds Bank, a bank located in England. Their feedback was assessed, analysing how they felt about the horses (also banks logo), the music, the models and the advertisement as a whole. Most of the reactions were positive where viewers were emotionally sentimental about the horse and the music.

For my promotional message it is important i can engage the viewers and connect them emotionally to the brand and message I am creating about the product. I believe I can achieve this through the music in the video and also the scenes and content included in the video, aiming to pull the viewer in. This would make the advertisement more successful by making the viewer want to take action after seeing it, which is buying the shoe.

Mogaji, E & Wright L T 2016, This advert makes me cry: Disclosure of emotional response to advertisement on Facebook, Cogent Business & Management, vol. 3, no. 1, p. 1177906.
<del>
                                                          </del>

The article below discusses a marketing campaign Nike undertook in Canada in a popular train station using posters and a well known sports figure. The campaign known as "Whatever" also linked to television and website advertisements, of which was beneficial for Nike as the internet is popular among young male teens, a large consumer basis they seek. Caroline Convey, group media manager at Cossette Media in Canada says "Teens are motivated by music, sports, entertainment, a sense of community and chat rooms".

As young males are also a similar target audience for this shoe's promotional message it would be valuable to focus on areas with the music, sports, entertainment and community. This would make the message more successful and get viewers to take action by motivating them.

Lejtenyi, P 2000, What larger than life means: when Nike Canada decided to run its Whatever/N'importe quoi campaign in the Montreal metro, it ensured no one would miss it by running ads of a size and scope never seen before in this country, Marketing Magazine (Toronto), vol. 105, no. 14, p. 30.

Nike Joyride

This advert shows off a pair of Nike runners through a group of people going for a run in the 38 second video.

My video will be similar in the way that it shows off the shoe being used. I will also focus on shoes with not using any dialogue as also done here. They did use some text promoting the shoes that is something I will consider to also do, but rather at the end of the video unlike they did here at the start. The music used in the advertisement is a more joyful upbeat, whereas I will be using a more serious upbeat to grab the attention of the viewer.

Nike Latam 2019, Nike Joyride, video, YouTube, 21 November 2019, viewed 19 March 2021, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1KPGP96jHs
<del>

</del>
Yepme high performance running shoes

This advertisement shoes off various running shoes whilst people complete a physical workout.

This video focuses on the shoes in action, which is something I will also be doing, however they are more workout activities such as skipping and box jumps. I will be just focusing on running as my target audience aren't highly dedicated sports enthusiast, but people who would wear the runners for physical sports and also shopping trips due to the provided comfort. In the advertisement there is a great amount of attention with the features of the shoe, however I aim to show off my shoe with looks and a demonstration of the shoe being used rather than pointing out obvious shoe like qualities.

Yepme 2016, Shoes TV Ad - High Performance Running Shoes TVC by Yepme, video, YouTube, 7 April 2016, viewed 19 March 2021, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBRJUdGdn00
<del>

</del>
Adidas Springblade shoe

In this video the shoe is primarily shown off through different angles rather than demonstrating the shoe in use, except for one small part where it is worn.

In my video I will be primarily showing off the shoe while it's being used.

Attention
I will capture the viewers attention through the music playing in the video. It will be similar to hip/rap which is popular among the targeted audience and this common passion will draw them in.

Interest
I will create interest within the video by showing off the shoes in action, and essentially putting the viewer in the shoes to experience the action themselves. By showing off the different uses it will allow viewers to explore different things they could do with them.

Desire
The music will play a large role to create desire for the shoes. If the target audience likes the music it is likely they will also like the product being shown. The music will make the viewers enthusiastic, excited and passionate wanting to watch more of the video and seek more when it’s finished.

Action
After seeing the promotional video viewers will want to search the brand to find out more about the shoe and ideally want to buy it. The combination of the music and visuals of the shoe will lead the target audience to take further action as ideally they would want a pair of the shoes due to them being cool. If the shoes are also popular this will further push to likability of the product and further interest and additional action being undertaken.

This will be achieved by using a sound track to build adrenaline and excitement for the viewer while the visuals will be fast moving and dramatic through slowing the images down and then returning them to normal. Shots will include close ups of the shoe in action, moving from different scenes at a fast pace before finishing off with a still image and logo that will coincide with the music beat stopping.

This is suitable for the shoe and the promotional video as it is meant to represent a fierce and luxury brand.
