Erasmus enrolled in the University of Paris in 1495, then in 1506 he received his doctor's degree in divinity from a University called Turin in Italy. Erasmus was a professor at Cambridge, England's Queens College from 1510 to 1515”

Praise of Folly has grown to be his most well-known and favored piece. The book, which was initially written in Latin, is presented as a lengthy speech or declaration made by a personification of Folly. In order to critique and make fun of the flaws in human nature in general as well as many of the institutions and customs of his time, both inside and outside the church" ("Erasmus").

Conveniently, when he was in England he started  researching the Greek manuscripts which he obtained during the visit. Erasmus co-authored the first Greek-Latin Parallel New Testament with his old colleague John Froben. This incredible story saw the first Scripture created from a printing press. Along with the Praise of Folly, this testament was a best seller and received immediate attraction. Erasmus was nothing short of a genius. He had a fierce desire to learn and his non stop reading of books, is one of the greatest contributing factors to his intellect. Erasmus love of reading is well documented, he is the only person to have read every book published during that period of time. He stated in one of his most well-known lines, "When I have a little money, I buy books; and if any is left over, I buy food and clothing". He was always seeking additional knowledge and new perspectives. This eventually spawned a very common question even among today's standards. Does reading make you smarter?
