This song was playing when Tom, Daisy and Gatsby were discussing how Gatsby gained his wealth. Tom was thinking of another girl showing up the party so that Gatsby could forget his love for Daisy. Three O'clock in the Morning could be a metaphor for how Daisy and Gatsby's relationship was renewed. Gatsby and Daisy’s hearts are still ‘beating in time’ with one another.

"Her glance left me and sought the lighted top of the steps, where Three O'Clock in the Morning, a neat, sad little waltz of that year, was drifting out the open door." (page 108)

The artist of Three O'clock in the Morning is Julian Robledo and Theodora Morse. This song was released in 1921. The song is about lovers who waltzed through the night.

"We've danced the whole night through
And daylight soon will be dawning
Just one more waltz with you" (Three O'clock in the Morning)

"The one that makes me go all night long
The one that makes me think of you
That's all you gotta do

Play that song
The one the makes me stay out till dawn"
(Play That Song, Train) (Pop)

The lyrics up top are from Three O'clock in the morning and the one below is Play that Song by Train. They are similar in regards of dancing all night long with a lover of theirs.

Three O'clock in the Morning

Music is significant to the novel. The time that Gatsby wrote the book was in "the roaring twenties". This was known as the Jazz age. Fitzgerald said himself in Echoes of the Jazz Age “it was an age of miracles, it was an age of art, it was an age of excess, and it was an age of satire" Readers of The Great Gatsby at the time understood and connected with the music. Fitzgerald used music to reflect characters moods and emotions as well as the mood of the atmosphere.
