What is the Earth's tilt?

Well, the name kind of already explains what the 'Earth's tilt' is. It means our earth is tilted on an angle. The reason why our earth is tilted on an angle is because about 4.5 billion year ago, a huge object, about the size of Mars, plummet toward earth, and knocked it sideways. So now, our earth orbits the sun on a slanted angle.

Why does the Earth's tilt matter?

Without the earth's tilt, we wouldn't experience seasons. No, not like the cinnamon or paprika kind of seasons. Like the Summer and Winter kind of seasons. Each season has a different impact on the environment, the people and the animals. For example, spring is like a 'new' season. Flowers start to blossom, leaves start to grow back, and newborns are welcomed into the world. If it weren't for the earth's tilted axis, our seasons wouldn't exist. According to Don Attwood, an ecological anthropologist at McGill University in Montreal , Canada, humans would probably not have advanced past the state of living in small, dispersed establishments, hunting for survival and most likely dying of dreadful insect-borne diseases.

What is the importance and purpose of each season for our environment, animals, plants and people?

Each season plays a crucial role in supporting our people, and our environment.

In some places, summer brings tropical rainfall which is great for wildlife. In other parts of the world, the sun shines bright. Sunlight contains Vitamin D which helps your body absorb calcium for stronger bones.

Autumn months are some of the cooler months of the year. This time of the year, animals start preparing themselves for winter, by collecting food and storing it somewhere, or maybe even moving to warmer regions. Leaves start to fall off of trees as trees need to conserve water to help them through the winter months.

Winter is the coldest season of the four. Some parts of the earth experience snowfall, and some only experience cold rain. During this season, animals find a way to keep themselves warm. Some might even change their appearance to adapt to the cold weather. In India, the Diwali festival takes place during October and November, in which they celebrate triumph of goodness, and of light over darkness.

After winter comes spring, the season where vegetation begins to appear, and life is brought into the world. The spring season is usually warmer, and wetter as ice begins to melt. As this is one of the wetter seasons, waterways can sometimes begin to overflow.

What would happen if our climate changed and we had a never ending summer?

Obviously, it would be hotter. But when it's hot, people are more likely to be pumping their air conditioning. And air conditioning requires using a lot of electricity, which releases a lot of greenhouse gases into our environment. Hotter weather all year round will also increase peoples chances of developing skin caner, and getting a heat stroke, as well as encourage subtropical diseases to spread throughout our country.
