As I was reading the book Number the Stars I found a word that I was unknown to me. That word was tentatively. I tried to use the clues around the word to find out what the word means. The novel says "Ellen and Annemarie smiled tentatively." This gets me thinking about the situation that the girls where just in. There were soldiers in their home. This would be very surprising to me. So maybe the word tentatively means weakly or fake.

On page 50 of Number The Stars Chapter 6 I saw a word that wasn't familiar to me and that word was tentatively by using today's lesson to help me I broke down the word. When I broke dow the word it said tent-ta-tive-ly and then looked around the word and it said "Ellen and Annemarie both smiled tentatively. For a moment their fear eased ." Now I know that the word tentatively can mean to be uncomfortable.
