1. What is conduction? What is heat as defined in science?

The process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions without movement of the material.

A form of energy associated with the motion of atoms or molecules and capable of being transmitted through solid and fluid by conduction.

2. Explain how conduction is demonstrated by the experiment that you are doing with the candle, wire, and the wax.

Conduction is demonstrated because through the heat the wire absorbs from the lit candle it causes the wire to get hotter causing the ball of wax at the end of the wire to melt.

3. Which of the wires conducted heat the best (melted the ball of wax first)?

The biggest wire melted the wax first. So the biggest wire was the best conductor of heat.

4. Explain with at least 2 sentences why that wire is the best conductor of heat. (Make sure to mention how the thickness of the wire helped your results)

The biggest wire is the best conductor of heat because their are more molecules next to one another in more rows, so when they all vibrate because of the heat, other molecules will get hit much faster. So they will travel from one side to the other faster because there are more molecuels than the smaller ones.

5. Which of the ESLR's was addressed in this activity.

An ESLR that was used In this project, would be the responsible member of society. That applies here because we had to use team work to light the candles and put the balls of wax onto the wires. We also had to keep a positive attitude because we got pretty board just waiting for the wax to melt.
