I never realized that there were to systems to making decisions in your brain, one is automatic and unconscious which is used to make rapid decisions, and the other one is more deliberate and controlled. System one tends to use mental shortcuts to reach a decision more quickly.

I was surprised by the paradox of choice, choice blindness, and asymmetric dominance (decoy effect). Paradox of choice causes you to freeze up and become unable to make a decision, like when you are faced with too many options you usually freeze up and take a while to make a decision, or are unable to. Choice blindness exploits the automatic system, its the idea that you are blind or unaware of the reasons for your actions. Asymmetric dominance, also called the decoy effect, is when a decoy is put in place to manipulate your decision making, like in the movie theater when you have the option of a medium for $6.50 or a large for $7. You are more likely to chose the large even if you know you can't eat more than a medium, because you think you are getting a better deal since there is only a 50 cent difference.
