         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. The emperor was the top rank but the shogun ruled all of Japan.<br>2.  The Daimyo held the second spot as they were samurai warriors who owned land.<br>3. Samurai warriors held the third spot.<br>4. Peasants and artisans held the fourth spot. Most of the people in Japan were peasants.<br>5. Merchants held the last spot, but they became more important over time.<br>The actual ruler was the shogun who was the supreme military commander.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. The Tokugawa Shogunate completed the unification of Japan. As ieyasu (the leader) defeated his enemies he gained the trust of Daimyo.<br>2. The Japanese culture thrived under there new ruler as they continued to research old warriors, paint, and even wrote Haikus.<br>3. After the Battle of Sekigahara Japan went from a rural country to more of an urban one. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Portuguese brought over clocks, Tobacco and firearms. The most impactful one was firearms because as Japan started to mass produce it the Samurai warrior started to die off because the musket was better in battle then a sword.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1549, Christian missionaries arrived in Japan along with the European merchants. The goal of the missionaries was to spread Christianity, but this upset the shogun. He banned Christianity and  focused on getting rid of all christians in Japan. After the Shogun died the repression of Christians continued until 1673, he even killed the christians due to their beliefs.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1639 Japan issued a closed country policy, this lasted about 200 years. Japan still remained open to Dutch and Chinese merchants. Nagasaki is also known for the city where the second atomic bomb was dropped during WW2.</div>]]></description>
