Poverty and lack of opportunity is two of issues the people of the United States is going through in recent years. In Economic Inequality it states, “May 2023 found that 37 percent of American households would not be able to cover an unexpected expense of $400 without having to sell something or go into debt.” A lot of people struggle to keep up with today’s inflation. The reason for that is how low minimal wage is and how it stayed the same for years. In the article Minimum Wage, “1.6 million workers-or less than 2 percent of all hourly workers-earned the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour or less in 2019”.

To help with prevent more poverty in the US, in Katie Van Syckle article, they raised millions to help fight poverty at “Robin Hood's benefit raised more than $68.5 million, far exceeding the $26 million raised by the Met Gala." They threw another event where they help raise money for other stuff like food and housing. “Within minutes, $5 million was contributed, followed by several gifts of $1 million, all of which would go toward grants to help provide permanent housing, emergency food and job training to people living in poverty”. To have better opportunity in the working community and not having to be close to poverty, some states have already raised the minimum wage to where people can live just right.

The US wants changes to poverty and lack of opportunits to people who needs it more then others and people who came here for a better life. In Economic inequality, "Tens of millions of people in the United States live under the federal poverty line, which in 2023 means earning less than $14,580 a year for individuals or $30,000 a year for a family of four." To change this issue the government plans raise minimum wage,“The government must adopt sweeping programs that provide safety nets for every American, require companies to pay employees living wages, and fund ambitious employment and welfare programs, they insist, by finally properly taxing the rich.”
