Philippine Sports

Sports has always been a popular culture among us Filipino's. We have seen at least 1 basketball court near our home or at school, frequently packed with people whenever there is a social event or a game of sports. No matter the case, the topic of sports is present everywhere. Organizations such as the FIBA Basketball world cup help in popularizing the sports amongst the Filipino audience. Inspiring us to join in our own sports, and give a sense of patriotism and pride to all Filipino's.

The Change

With how we intake certain forms of media and pop culture, it's not hard to integrate some of these things into our real life. For example, watching a cartoon show and following what the characters are doing, and in our context of Philippine sports, doing what our idol does and following in their footsteps in sports or in real life. We look towards sports as an entertainment and inspiration, that's why a lot of us are attracted to it, doing it as a leisure, sport or just for bonding and fun with friends and family. This leads us to why it gives us some uses and gratifications in our real lives consuming these media.

We actively seek out forms of inspirations in our day to day life. In sports, many of us seek for it to amuse ourselves at how we may be able to do what they may do. Fantasizing about how to play as well as our sports idol is the little push we need to improve and better ourselves in that aspect of the sport. Further gratifying our consumption of Philippine sports and media. Thus, the uses and gratifications of sports highlight the enduring significance of our contemporary culture.
