It is about treating offenders with dignity and supporting them to make pro-social changes, however also being firm and fair in terms of enforcement and the consequences of not complying and continuing to offend. It is about delivering the overall message that offending will not be tolerated but that there is support to make changes to ultimately avoid this. A key value is also having the victim’s needs ever present in the mind, including victims who are non-compliant (particularly DV). Being creative to support people is also a value, in that “not one size fits all” in terms of approach.

Ideally this would be within the offenders, but if not, allowing a victim to feel supported and protected is also a positive outcome. I have seen so many people who have spent wasted time in custody/under probation, when they could be so much more than what they have been labelled. Most offenders are intelligent or skilled and you usually end up liking them despite their offending!  We get to know the person at the heart of the offending and most people aren’t bad to the core! Also to feel proud of the work I do and to know I do an interesting job! Life would be boring sat behind a desk all day, I get paid to talk to people!
