It occured between the Triassic period to the begining of the Cretaceous Period which is a total of 56 million years. It was at that time the bird and the dinosaurs started to evolve and it was also the time when the ocean life began to flourish.

The atmosphere when the jurassic period started was much more humid, but it also included high levels of carbon dioxide and also more clouds covering the sky. This is because under the jurassic period there is evidence that the forest included trees that was made of ferns. Frens include high levels of humidity and water which resulted in high levels of carbon dioxide in the air. This levels where even higher than the levels of CO2 in the air today. People have also found fossils from the jurassic period and they indicates that the atmosphere had higher levels of humidity than today.

The Marine life

The marine life under the jurassic period was more significantly than it is today, not as dark and cold as it is nowadays. And it would be hard for modern eyes to understand and recognise it. When the pangaea split in the beginning of the jurassic period, new oceans like the atlantic ocean formed. In the beginning it was quite small but increased all the time. This resulted into new marine life. With this new sea between the continents, new reptiles and pterosaurs moved in and become comfortable with each other. But also different dolphins like the Ichthyosaurus and the plesiosaurs. But some of the reptiles and dolphins later evolved into Elasmosaurus which was a genus among the plesiosaurs, long-necked reptile.

major event

During the jurassic time period the climate changed from dry and hot to a humid subtropical climate. A big major event of the jurassic time period is the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event. During the Early Jurassic, animals and plants living both on land and in the seas recovered from one of the largest mass extinctions event in Earth history. This event marks the boundary between the triassic and the jurassic time period. It resulted in mass extinction of all the different animals living on earth and the gas from the vulcanes also toxic the ocean. There are different hypotheses of how the mass extinction at the end of triassic period caused. But the major theories that also have evidence that it was a cause of the mass extinction in the end of triassic time period is Volcanic Activity, Climate Change and Meteor Impact.

Volcanic activity: Under this period there was unusually high volcanic activity levels which can be one of the explanation of the mass extinction event. A reason why this occured is because of the big floods of basalts that arrived from places like the Central American region which is big floods of volcanic stones. These big volcanic eruptions says have resulted in releasing high levels of greenhouses gases like sulfur dioxide and CO2 in the air. Which increased the temperature of the global climate.

Climate change: This hypothesis thinks that instead of this fast and big increase of the temperature in the climate, it was slowly developed. It also says that it leaded into a change of the levels in the ocean with a higher level of acid which killed all the marine life there.

Meteor impact: There is also thought that the mass extinction of the Triassic/Jurassic was caused by meteors or asteroids from space. There's not many people that thinks this can be a reason because for example, they haven’t found any marks or holes in the ground big enough to be after a meteor or asteroid. However there was some small groups of meteor hitting the surface of earth at this time period but we can see that they wasn’t big enough to create such a big mass extinction as the Jurassic/triassic one.

Dominant species during jurassic time period

The dominant animal of the Jurassic time period was the dinosaurs. There was carnivores, plant-eating and reptile-dinosaurs that lived under the Jurassic time period. The most common one on land was the Allosaurus. It was a large carnivore that was very threatening enemy to the other land living species. It’s body form was a very flexible one which resulted in that it was very fast, even done it just moved on two legs. It also has a very big jaw with big pointy teeths. There was also the well known Tyrannosaurus rex living on land in the Jurassic time period. It was very alike to the Allosaurus but smaller and therefore less dangerous. The most dominant animal in the oceans under the Jurassic time period was the Leopleuroson, it was the most dangerous and was carnivores. It had a really big jaw with big teeth, and was 7 meters long. The most dominate flying animal under the jurassic time period was the Archaeopteryx. It was a carnivore bird but the body shaped was like a normal bird. It had bigger claws, bigger wings and teeth. This resulted in that it was more dangerous. Early mammals also were present, though they were still quite insignificant.

How was the geographic landscape?

In the beginning of the jurassic time period, the Pangaea which was the continent of earth started to drift apart and create a new landscape in the jurassic world. The effect of the this was that more coastlines , oceans as the atlantic and other landscapes created. The Pangaea also created two different landscapes, the north one which called Laurasia and the south one, Gondwana. As I said before, the climate become more humid and not as dry which maked desserts turn into important rainforests. The jurassic time period consisted of many conifers which was the main plant species in the jurassic. There where no grass yet and the jurassic geographic landscape wasn’t so familiar to ours today. But because of the configurations, oceanographic patterns, and biological systems that evolved under the jurassic time period the geographic landscape started to become more like ours.

Under 185 million years have the fossils in the jurassic coast helped us to see how life have changed and evolved there. We found fossils from the dinosaurs and other saurs like the flying one, Pterosaurs. But also the giant and dangerous reptiles of the marina life. They also found fossil from fishes and sharks that evolved as the time passed through Tirassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. This helped us understand the important evolution for the modern fish species that we have today. Important evidence of the evolution of mammals was also found in the jurassic coast. The fossils from the mammals from the jurassic coast says come from the middle of the jurassic time period. The fossils are not big evidence, it’s for exempel just small teeth and stuff like that but it’s still a important evidence for mammals evolution. Some of the most common fossils found under where clams, sea shells, sea snails and belemnites. The most of them come from Molluscs and Brachiopods. It’s remains and marks from the marina life from the jurassic and Cretaceous that are most found in old rocks from the jurassic and cretaceous.

How did the environment of the Earth during jurassic time period shape the forms of life present?

The jurassic time period made many marks in our environmental history. Such as the development of the mammals that came during the jurassic time period. This has only developed more and more and today there are Mammals all over the world, on all continents, in all oceans and on most islands. They have adapted to most environments and are found in the desert, rainforest and polar regions, among others. The development of sharks and crocodiles are also animals that lived during jurassic time period and they are still a part of our environment. Todays birds are also ancestors of jurassic time period dinosaurs. A big event that occurred under the jurassic time period and effect our world today is the dividing of the Pangaea that i mentioned before. The effect of the diving have give us our oceans like the atlantic and Gulf of Mexico which is big part of the earth and include lots of important marine life. The Gulf of Mexico is also a very important source for the earth it has helped us with shape the natural heritage, culture, and economy of the five Gulf of Mexico States and the nation. The fact that the Atlantic developed during the jurassic time period was very important for the future, because today it have a very important role for our environment. Such as regulates our climate and gathering the hot water that the equator heated up from the ground and take it to the cold poles. It also transfer the cold water from the cold poles to the tropics. If we wouldn't have these streams that move the water through the poles and equator the weather would be extreme in some parts of the world. There would also be less places to settle on and live in because of how crazy the climate would become.
