I learned this originally because I became a docent at an historic house and demonstrated historic cooking over a fireplace. To become good at it I researched historic recipes and techniques and PRACTICED...a lot. It has become a tradition in my family (for the women) at Christmas to bake together and pass it on to the younger generations. This is my grand-daughter Genevieve from last Christmas.

I have worked for the past ten years on developing life coaching skills to use with teenagers. I was recipient of 1-1 coaching after I had my two children and went back to work. The experience helped me manage my long term targets and overcome fears of managing the work life balance. I sought training in the same skills attended workshops and ultimately introduced basic coaching models (GROW etc.) to my school and my council. I became good at it through practice; watching other people model how to do it; sharing it with colleagues and helping them get better and continually revisiting the strategies and using them every day/week in class. I would teach it to staff and students now by sharing 'grow zone' approach and encouraging them to incorporate techniques a little at a time until they grow in confidence

Yoga
*I learned to do it well by going to classes. The teacher worked with me to improve the various flows and positions. Then, I practiced, practiced, practied. Practice sometimes happened on in person or virtual.
*If recorded over the span of ten years, you would see improvement in flexibility, stamina, and inversions from someone who could barely do downward dog.
*Because a person(s) would be learning it for the first time, I would use the TCRWP workshop apporach, demonstrating the position or flow then have the person(s) individually practice. During this time, I would confer with the person(s) learning the pose or the flow.

Later I taught myself to read patterns and actually create my own patterns. If recorded over the years you would see my skill level improve as well as my knowledge of yarn arts in general. If I taught the skill to someone I would suggest they play the crochet hook and yarn until they could make a chain. I would encourage watching YouTube videos and analyzing crocheted pieces.

1. One of my favorite hobbies is gardening. I enjoy many different types of gardens - veg, cutting flowers, shade, roses etc and have worked over the last 8 years in my yard to produce all of these.
2. I learned to do this in many different ways. By reading, working with local garden professionals, joining in gardening groups and of course trial and error.
3. Over the years you would see me learning that a garden in a colder climate means that you cannot just plant what you like, but what can survive so you would see many flowers dying because I wanted them but they were not suitable to our cold winters. You would see the slow development of my learning what actually works here.
5. To teach this skill, I would stress the fact that you need to know your environment, hours of sun, what works in the environment and that it is a slow process to see the fruits of your labor.

I learnt through one-to-one with my instructor; she would show me either on her own or with me and then I would practise on my own. When I was young, I wasn't very cognizant of the fact that I was watching everything my parents and grandparents did in the kitchen or at the grill. I would ask questions when I didn't understand something.
At a school book fair, I ordered a kids' cook book and began to make some of the recipes.
As I reached older teenage years, I began to experiment on my own.
I am not much of a true recipe follower. I like to begin with a recipe and then make it my own. A lot of trial & error.
I find that I continue to broaden my horizons and gain more skill by conversing a lot with other people who have an interest in foods and cooking.
It's therapeutic for me.
Side note - my glass cooktop was shattered in Jan. I ordered a new one and have been waiting ever since!
So how to begin teaching it? I think I would have to start by asking a student what they wanted to learn about.
