I'd Google search some relevant media -- or use the free sites we were shown -- and try to keep my content short and DIFFERENT from the original.
I'm not sure that it's ever really okay to borrow w/o acknowledgement, but I also don't think it's a huge issue in the grand scheme of things, especially if it's supplemental media and not text. Like, everyone KNOWS your student didn't write/direct/produce the Lion King and any sort of video they make is just not going to be popular enough to cause issues -- and if it does, Youtube will just mute it or take it down.

I would look for resources like the ones Dr. M. showed us that are collections of financially free and copyright free media, especially stock photos and things like that. I would also look at my own creations or those of people I personally know to assure permission. The only case where I would say it's okay to not explicitly acknowledge the creator is if you've done extensive investigation and still haven't found a creator to credit. Some things have been repurposed so much that finding the truly original author is difficult, especially with how things are shared on social media. Otherwise, creators always need to be credited.

I may use some of the sites we looked at but if I had to use google, I would cite websites where images came from. It is never okay to borrow images without acknowledgement. This person could take an amazing photo and they deserve the credit and profit from its use.

Google can be a great resource, but it can also get you into trouble. Using copyrighted material without being in compliance of the Fair Use Act is not legal, no matter how your sources are cited. And sources always need to be cited. If you didn't create the work originally, you need to acknowledge that at either the beginning or the end of the work in which you are using the sourced material.

If I was making a video to illustrate a poem, I might have a credits page at the end of my video like the have in the movies. That way, I could credit all of the images and music that I use in my video in a way that doesn't distract from the video itself. I think it would be ok to pull images without crediting the source if I'm only using the image for a short time and am changing it in some way.

Using brief clips or images to describe aspects of the poem would be a start. Nothing too long and it should relate directly to what is being illustrated. Music can be used as well to illustrate the tone of a poem. For a full song, credit should be given, and for brief snippets, it may not be necessary to acknowledge the creator. It can be okay to borrow without crediting, if the uses are brief and not a main point or source in the video.

Take for example if the poem was about nature, I would use one of the free videos that Dr. Moran showed us or I could even create my own video of a natural scene that resembles the poem. I could even draw a picture or make a collage out of multiple pictures that alters the image in some way.
It's definitley not okay to take someone's work and not acknowledge them at all. However, if you are editing the image and changing it, there is no actual copyright violation.

I would probably google videos and images that I felt went along with the theme of the poem and then use those to put together a montage of clips. I think that you should definitely give credit to whoever you are borrowing images from. It's not fair for someone's work to be shown all over the internet without them getting credit.

Borrowing information is not okay if you do not give credit to the source. We teach our students about plagiarism and I think it is only right for us to follow the same notion.
