Transcendentalists believe in living "deliberately." This means living each day as if it were your last and thriving to achieve anything you've dreamed of. This quote describes how certain people will absolutely take advantage of anything that life offers them because they want to make their life the most full it can be. They try to supply themselves with as much happiness and positive vibes as possible. A way to live deliberately is to not let others influence you and where your life will take you. If you have a goal that may be difficult to approach, don't let someone tell you it won't happen. That is something trancensdentalists often keep in mind.

From reading "Self-Reliance", Henry David Thoreau makes his opinion on society very clear. He is unhappy with how everyone lives the same. We all try to fit in, without discovering our true selves. We live our life away so quickly, because we're constantly too busy trying to be someone else. The same thing is even still going on today in 2018. One person starts a trend and everyone follows it, close to how birds all stay close together, and none of them get left behind. But maybe some people want to be different, they want to be themselves, but they feel like they'd be judged or disliked if they expressed how they actually are. I think technology also contributed to this because now we can easily view celebrities online, and they are some of the biggest influencers in the world. As soon as they do something, everybody else feels the need to do the same, even if it isn't a positive choice.

If I were going on a long journey tomorrow and maybe never returning home, I would bring the items most important to me. I would bring photo albums, so I could always remember and look back on the memories I made at home. I would bring clothing items that meant a lot to me, like maybe I wore them during an important or fun day. I would probably say goodbye to my family and closest friends face-to-face, but everyone else I would write a letter to. It would make me devastated to know it could've been my last time seeing some people. Just the thought of physically losing them would be deep in my brain, and would come back every now and then.

This quote from Thoreau has a very powerful meaning to it. It means, if someone isn't following what everyone else is doing, they probably don't think it's right. Not everybody in life will have the same aspirations and not everyone will want to follow the trends. Society should learn that accepting people is way more important than having everyone try to fit in, because the chances of that happening are very low. Although I can't think of one specific person who heard a "different drummer", I've seen many examples of nonconformity with celebrities and even some of my friends. Nonconformity is not necessarily a bad thing, although it is often portrayed that way. It just means you would prefer to be yourself even when everyone around you is disguising themselves into people they are not. Personally, I don't see a problem with either side. It's fun to follow trends or be inspired by other people, but it's also just as enjoyable to forget about all that and just express your true self.

Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" is about the author making a tough decision, and later regretting it. This happens to many people in life because we often don't think through our actions before we make them, or sometimes we aren't satisfied with the outcome of things. When I was 13, I quit gymnastics. I got bored with it, and it was taking up too much of my time, so the sport that I loved for 8 years was something I would not do often anymore. At first, I was excited. I'd have more time to do my homework, and more time to be with my friends. Months later, when it became summer, I regretted stopping gymnastics. I was so used to being in a gym for 3 hours a night, doing what I loved. And since school wasn't going on anymore, I became bored almost every day. I like to relate this story to Robert Frost's poem because no matter how small a decision is, someone could still think about it day in and day out, wishing to go back to that time and change it.

You probably don't realize it, but there are many examples of Transcendentalism in movies and tv shows. In the movie Mean Girls, there are many examples of confidence and nonconformity. The main character, Regina, is confident that she can control her whole high school. She thinks if she does something, everyone else will follow her. And usually, that is the case. However, Cady Heron then comes to the school, she moved from Africa, where her parents were stationed to discover new species of animals. When they came back to America, Cady went to a new school with new people. She ends up being friends with Regina, but she doesn't act just like her. Cady keeps her own style and her own personality, which is what makes her so likeable.

This quote written by Henry David Thoreau is an example of confidence and nonconformity. He was a very strong believer of going against society and doing whatever pleases you. We shouldn't worry about what other people think or what other people are doing, because the most important thing is your own happiness. You have the freedom of expressing yourself in any way so don't let someone ruin that opportunity. You don't always have to follow what everybody else is doing, because when you're yourself you'll enjoy life much more that way. You don't want to live your life away always trying to be like someone else.
