Anybody can get sporotrichosis by touching the fungus. People will have to touch the plant matter, the moss or rose bushes to get it. However those who are prone to get it are people who work in gardens and in the forest.

What are the symptoms?

When one has sporotrichosis the symptoms will be different depending where the fungus is at. The first sympton usually is a small bump, it will be painless. The bump will be a pinkish to red even purple color. On cases where people get the infection usually is on their hand, or their arm. The bump will then get larger and look like an ulcer or sore.

Some ways to prevent it would be wearing protective clothing when outside handling plant matter, for example wearing gloves and longsleeve shirts and pants.

To figure out if you have it you will have to give a tissue sample of the area that looks infected. If it is severe then blood tests would work otherwise it will not.
