I would be a patriot because I believe that some of the British laws were unfair like the tea act, the quartering acts and the stamp act. Unlike loyalists patriots stood up for their rights against the British people. Although it is great that they stood up for their right would not be a violent as they were. This is why I would be a patriot.

-Madelaine Whalen #23

Between these options, I would be neutral. Although the British treated the colonies unfairly, they also spent tens of millions of pounds trying to protect the colonies, so that gives them an excuse for taxing so heavily. Also, King George didn’t want to hurt the colonies until they protested by destroying a lot of tea that cost a lot of money. Instead, he just wanted to lose the heavy debt that England had gained during the war, protecting the colonies. This all shows why I would not pick a side and simply remain neutral if I were alive during the time of the American.

Jerry #24

I would chose to be a Patriot because, I would think that it is unfair that all of the Patriots have to pay extra expensive taxes for a war they weren’t even in. They didn’t have any say in what King George III was doing. They were pretty much being torchered when they lived there. They were so controlled by Britain, that they even had to let British soldiers live in their homes! All of the laws that the King had were just crazy! These are the reasons why I would be a patriot.

Chris #5

After reviewing all the options, I decided I would be a neutral. I chose this option because yes, it is true that the British taxed the colonies for things that I think are necessary, but the British helped them in the French and Indian war. Also, in the Boston Massacre, the British were the ones that fired, but it happened because a colonist threw an object at a soldier, causing him to fire. This is both sides fault. Also, by being a neutral, I wouldn't have to worry about being beaten by the Sons of Liberty if I were a loyalist, and I wouldn't have to be worried about having to be in an event like the Boston Massacre.

Gui #10

If I was alive during the time of King George, I would be a neutral. First of all, I can see ways that both sides would believe that they are right. For the Patriots, Britain had basically been using them as a personal ATM. Colonists were constantly given unnecessary taxes that made Patriots’ lives miserable. On the other hand, I have some sympathy for the Loyalists because a group of Patriots called the Sons of Liberty poured lots of tea into the water. This caused Britain’s best product to be wasted, making them lose a large sum of money. This leads me to my next point. The whole ordeal reminds me of a schoolyard fight. Someone makes someone else mad. They decide to challenge. This goes back and forth, and never seems to end. I would not want to be a part of any of this chaos. Overall, I would be a neutral if I lived in the time of the American Revolution.

- Sam W #20

I would be a neutral because I can see both sides of the story. The patriots think that King George is completely unfair. The loyalists think that King George is right in what he is doing, and that he is only taxing them to pay for the debt from saving the colonies. Also, think it would be easier to just not be involved in things like this. If you show a strong opinion in either direction either there is a chance you will be attacked by the Sons of Liberty or you could get arrested for protesting. It would just be the most sensible to be a neutral especially if you don't feel strongly either way.

-Megan

If I was alive during this time and had to make the choice of being a Patriot, Loyalist, or a Neutral, I would be a neutral. First of all, I could see myself as either a Patriot or a Loyalist. But I would choose neutral because I would not really want to be involved with the arguing. I could see myself being a Patriot because what the British were doing to the Patriots was not right. They had no right to do the Stamp act or the Tea act. But I could also see myself as a Loyalist because I would respect the laws of my king. So I would go along with either act if I was a Loyalist. But this is going back to the reason why I would be a neutral, I would not have to be involved with any of this. I may of gotten into an argument with the British for not being able to move to certain places but that does not mean I would go right over to a Patriot. So, overall if I lived in the time of the American Revolution I would be a neutral.

-Olivia #12

After reviewing these options between a Patriots, Loyalist, or a Neutral. I would be a Neutral, they're many reasons why. For example, I wold not be a British because they are making silly laws/taxes just because the British can't pat their fees that they need to pay off. On the other hand just because the Sons of liberty are mad that does not mean they can violently attack the British that are just doing what the king is telling them to do. Also it is not just the sons of liberty but it is the colonist to. For example, mobs of colonist attacked the tax collectors. This is why I would be a Neutral.
-Keira Palme #14

( sorry for highlighting the word collector. I did it on accident and don't know how to undo it.)

I would definitely be a patriot. I would not be able to tolerate the laws and acts the British were putting on the colonies. I would feel that the colonies would be best off by governing themselves. I agree with the boycotts and protests against the British, and would share my opinion by joining them. Liberty, freedom, and fairness are important to me, and I can’t let King George keep taxing the colonies. Overall, I would support the revolution, at the risk of my own life.

-Eleanor #18
