Afterwards Nestor's son, Pisistratus, leaves Pylos with Telemachus. While visiting Pylos, Telemachus becomes more confident in his abilities.

The suitors back on Ithaca discover Telemachus's voyage and plan to ambush him and kill him. As book 4 ends, Iphthime comforts Penelope who believes both her son and husband will die.
