Electric toothbrushes do have a significant effect on plaque removal over a power toothbrush.
 
Both Oral-B and Sonicare are effective BUT-  the oscillatory rotational (Oral-B) toothbrush was slightly more beneficial than the Sonicare high frequency

HOWEVER - The report showed a significant difference between electric and manual, their research did not state this difference is 100% better at plaque removal, which is the claim that Sonicare made.

Sonicare improved probing attachment levels by 8.6%, but there was no attachment improvement with the Oral-B brush.

This research supports the therapeutic claim by Sonicare that it improves gum health by removing plaque at the gum line.
