Element 13 is helping students reflect on their learning. Reflection is just as important to students in the learning process as it is to teachers in their professional development. Reflection can be accomplished through reflective journals or knowledge comparison.

Reflective Journals:
- A reflective journal is a portion of an academic notebook specifically for content-related reflection.
- Possible framing questions:
"What predictions did you make about today's lesson?"
"What parts of the lesson were easy for you to understand? What parts are difficult?"
"How can you improve for tomorrow?"

Knowledge Comparison:
- Knowledge comparison involves students reflecting on their current level of mastery and comparing it to previous levels of the same learning goal. It is a way for students to reflect on their own growth.
- Can be accomplished using any kind of chart, graph, table, diagram, etc.

How Technology can Enhance these Strategies:

Technology can enhance these strategies by giving students a more tools and a larger canvas to design their reflections in ways they could not with pencil and paper. It also eliminates notebooks/paper taking up physical space in classrooms/desks/backpacks and ensures they will never be lost or ruined.

Implementation Tips:

As a kindergarten teacher, implementing element 13 with technology will take a bit of creativity. I really like the idea of having a reflective section in an interactive notebook, and could design kindergarten-friendly reflections using images, print, and paste them into these notebooks. I feel it would be unfair to expect kindergartners to navigate any of the software/program options listed in the text. However, in an older grade, I think they would be a great addition.
