Also every year they were hiding she brought a cake that represents she had hope for the war to end and for the year to be better. "I'll never forget it because you had "Peace in nineteen forty-three" on it [She looks at the cake and reads] "Peace in nineteen forty-four" (Scene 1, line 26).
