The outcome of the 1945-46 Indian elections was a political divide. The Indian National Congress won all non-Muslim general seats (57 out of 102 central seats), while the All India Muslim League won all Muslim seats (30 out of 30 central seats) as well as a majority of Muslim seats in the provinces. This entrenched the League as the sole representative of Indian Muslims, thereby fueling the demand for Pakistan.
