I haven't seen much vocabulary instruction in my placement. They learn new spelling words every week, but I am unsure if the students define the new words they learn. I learned that there are many was to incorporate vocabulary instruction in the classroom!

My CT will have these mini-lessons at the beginning of class that will have a few new vocabulary words: shared the term, ask students what they think the word may be, have a classroom definition, write down examples and this information is copied into their journals. Kinda boring and I don't think students really have a lot of authenticity or motivation to remember. I think the hot seat game would be great.

I like the different kinds of instruction for vocab. I have only seen the flocabulary and they really seem to like the rap and the activities. They also do pretty well on the quizzes. This is the only way I see vocab singled out but they also go over words they don't know when they come up in class.
