I chose generousity because in Mathematicians Are People, Too,
it talked about Pythagoras and his student. The characteristic Pythagoras shows is generosity. In the book, Pythagoras paid his student instead of the student paying him. Thales was the 1st of the seven wise men and was also generous. In the book it said that a donkey keeps falling into a river and Thales didn't care much about donkeys but he still tried to solve the problem anyway. He figured it out and he helped the donkey by teaching him a lesson and he just was doing it to help. I want to be generous just like Pythagoras and Thales.

One character trait that is important is determination. Determination was important for Sophie Germain. Sophie was determined to become a mathematician at the school of The Ecole Polytechnique, so she used a guys name to send a letter to the school because it did not accept women mathematicians. Leonard Euler used determination as well, such as in spite of his blindness, he still did mathematics. He even invented/discovered many things, like Euler's line, Euler's angles and Topology.

She also was brave enough to die when she was killed by Cyril. She also became the first woman professor. Galileo Galilei also had the courage to prove the catholic church wrong. This is why he had to get house arrest even though his theory was correct.

I also chose curiosity because I am very curious. In Mathematicians are People Too, Ramanujan was curious about a book that an older kid had. Mathematicians are People, Too said the older kid didn't understand the book but when Ramanujan read it, he understood the book. Another curious mathematician was a famous mathematician that Ramanujan wrote equations too. His name was Godfrey Hardy. Hardy was reading Ramanujan's notes and he was about to throw them away when an equation caught his eye. Hardy was curious about how Ramanujan solved his problems. Curiosity came be a good change because being curious means you have questions and questions get answers and answers help you learn.

One person that showed Self Motivation was Leonhard Euler I think this because even though he was blind he stuck to mathematics as it says on page 76 " my pencil is more intelligent than I am" that is why I think that Euler shows Self Motivation. another person that I thought showed Self Motivation was Emmy even though she was expected to learn hose chores she decided to learn math.

I think that you have to be determined in your self if you fail then you get up and try again. You never stop trying until you succeed. Then you try something different. So it becomes a cycle. This was showed by Galileo Galilei he showed determination by when they all said that the two iron balls were not going to hit the ground at the same time he still did the experiment. Another mathematician that showed determination is Emmy Noether she showed determination by still doing mathematics even after her mother said that she had to clean the house. In conclusion, Galileo Galilei and Emmy Noether both showed determination and were successful

With every attempt you will get better and soon you'll be just fine. Even the smartest people in the world made mistakes some time in their life. Leonhard Euler showed a lot of determination by working non-stop with his work after he became blind. Archemedies also had to be very determined to invent the lever and the catapult.

Because of his hard work he became one of the greatest mathematicians of all times. Another example of a hard worker was Srinvivasa Ramanujan. Pythagoras showed kindness by paying his student instead of the student paying him just because he wanted to teach someone to help them. Someone who also showed kindness was Sophie German. She helped protect Gauss when France invaded Germany. It helps you a lot in life if you have kindness.

Emmy Noether's mother showed open-mindedness when she finally allowed her daughter to pursue her love of mathematics. I admire the fact that she at first tried to steer her daughter towards the more acceptable paths of the day, but when she saw that Emmy loved math so much that she would wake up at night just to figure out equations, she knew her daughter had something special. Emmy's mom was open to the fact that her daughter's brain was uniquely-gifted for math. Another person who showed open-mindedness was Galileo when he was willing to say that perhaps everyone was wrong in thinking the planets revolved around Earth. He was not afraid to ask the question, "What if?" and pursue the answers.

Determination is a good character trait for all mathematicians to have because it helps them get their work done even when its hard. One mathematician is Sophie Germain. she showed determination when she wanted to do mathematics even when she was a girl. She wrote letters to other mathematicians under a fake name. I know this because on page 94 it said, she knew that Lagrange would never read a letter from anyone named Sophie so she used a mans name: Monsieur LeBlanc. The other mathematician is Leonard Euler. He showed determination because even when he was blind he continued to do mathematics.

Archimedes was hard working because because he made so many discoveries. Like the law of buoyancy he made the screw the catapult the law of the lever and was the kings problem solver. To do all these things you must be very hard working. This is why I think Archimedes was hardworking. I think Leohnard Euler was also hard working. He also made many discoveries like Euler's line, Euler's constant, Euler's formula, Euler's angles and he was blind. As you can see Leonhard Euler was a hard working man.
