The picture above is in response to state-sanctioned violence in my community. As we learned in Chapter 6 of our textbook, there are disparities in health and safety in this country and my community is no exception. Section 6.3.1.4 states "Feeling cared for, protected, and treated fairly by state-sponsored systems  is a fundamental requirement for a healthy and safe life." The people from my community in the picture above did not feel "cared for, protected, and treated equally" by local government.

The wall touches many of the different topics we have discussed in this class. It affects the environment by disrupting the natural migration patterns of animals. It affects the economy because undocumented workers work many of the jobs in my community. "sectors with large numbers of undocumented workers include agriculture" and as mentioned earlier in my Padlet, agriculture is the backbone of my communities economy . It affects culture by instilling a sense of fear when publicly displaying marginalized cultures.

Both my grandparents worked the majority of their adult lives in the fields, until my grandpa passed away from cancer in his mid 50's. We believe his cancer was tied to the extensive pesticides he was exposed to daily for decades. This is an example of an institution (the government) failing its citizens by not having strict environmental laws during the majority of the time my grandpa (and others) worked, leading to cancers and sickness
